One of the pitfalls of Ramadan is deciding what one is going to eat during iftar, otherwise known as the time to break fast. Though this may cause some levels of indecisiveness, one Muslim woman in Indonesia used a pretty smart trick to determine what food tasted the best at a Ramadan bazaar without needing to try a single item.
Digital creator Mutia Eriza and moderator Loandro Esar Pardede, employees from an Indonesian radio station named Aditya 87.6 FM, recently shared their pretty handy tactic to the station’s official TikTok page @aditya876fm.
Mutia, who is Muslim, decided to bring Pardede, who is not Muslim, along with her to try foods from the bazaar she found visually appetising before deciding if she would buy them for herself.
Walking past multiple stalls, Mutia simply pointed to a specific item before Pardede picked up a piece to try it for himself. Beginning with a curry puff, Pardede’s look of satisfaction encouraged Mutia to purchase two pieces for herself. Moving on, Mutia also made her friend try a stick of satay and a sweet drink, ordering both items for herself too once Pardede noted how good they tasted.
By the end of the clip, Mutia and Pardede skipped back to their office with joy, as the digital creator was able to get a delicious selection of items for herself using the assistance of her colleague and good friend.
“This is the benefit to having a good friend who is non-Muslim,” read the caption of the post.
Garnering an adorable response online, many users made some jests in relation to the duo and their clear bond as colleagues.
“This bestie also acts as quality control,” jokingly added one user.
On the other hand, various people, including Malaysians, said that in a multi-racial and multi-religious society, such instances like this are neither surprising nor uncommon as many others tend to do the same thing.
“Working together between different religions is good… especially when working together to get the best food for takjil (an Indonesian term for breaking fast),” commented another user.
