Previously, we shared the findings of a survey by independent public opinion research firm Merdeka Center titled ‘One Year After GE15 Survey Report‘.
The survey interviewed 1,220 registered voters by telephone from October 4 to October 24 in proportions reflective of the national electoral profile regarding their perception of current developments. Moreover, random stratified sampling was used to select respondents along categories of age group, ethnicity, gender, and state constituency.
Among the findings of the survey are that 60% of Malaysians think that the country is headed in the wrong direction and that 77.8% think the economy is the biggest problem our country faces.
Furthermore, the approval ratings of both the Unity Government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim were found to have plummeted, standing at 41% and 50% respectively.
Since then, Anwar himself has responded to the survey findings, saying that while his administration is taking note of the survey results, the survey itself is not representative of the whole picture.
As reported by FMT, the Prime Minister said that the Merdeka Center’s poll only involved a ‘small figure’ and asserted,
“The survey involved 1,200 people and we take heed. But we need to engage 32 million people,”
For reference, 32 million is the estimated population of Malaysia.
So, what do you guys think of Anwar’s statement? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
