As the price of goods continues to surge, Malaysians debate whether some hikes in prices are understandable, or just too much.
Just recently, a Malaysian shared an image of a small bowl of rice and discussed its price with fellow Malaysians on the platform Xiao Hong Shu. Based on the image, the rice comes with a small portion of steamed minced pork, and that’s it. No vegetables, or other sauces/gravies to accompany the dish.
The damage? RM10.50 for that small bowl of rice with steamed minced pork.
The caption of the post revealed that the dine-in experience took place at an unnamed restaurant in SS2, Petaling Jaya.
“So stingy. Didn’t even serve me some spring onions,” the caption said.
The person then rhetorically questioned,
“I understand that the price of pork meat is increasing. But to this extent?”
“I’m not coming back to this place”
The post has gained much attention on the platform and many netizens have expressed their thoughts on the price of the bowl of rice, which they think is ridiculously expensive.
A user criticised the pricing of the rice and suggested that he might know where the restaurant in question located.
“Stupid boss, I’ll never return to this place. Any place that serves a plate of rice with steamed pork and some vegetables is better than this restaurant.”
“This I cannot accept. I mistook the photograph for one taken at your house.”
Other users made it clear that they wouldn’t have returned to the same place and that too much ‘food’ is missing from the bowl.
“I’m definitely not coming back to this place if I were you.”
“At least a few slices of cucumbers would have been fine, to make it ‘look’ good.”
Another user sarcastically commented and said it almost looked like prison food to him.
“At least serve it with some spring onions and gravy. I thought you did something wrong and you were in prison.”
The battle against the rise in the cost of things is a serious one, and inflation is real. Do you believe paying RM10.50 for this serving of rice and pork is reasonable or outrageous?
