Bagai kera mendapat bunga?

Yesterday, footage from Sungai Pisang in Kuala Lumpur went viral as a massive crowd flooded the recreational area after Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Selangor had moved into Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP). And just to give you a little bit of context, the crowd was so huge that there was barely enough space for people to move.

And while this showed the Malaysian ‘tidak apa’ attitude since the authorities have warned against crowding even while vaccinated, it may also showcase another aspect of this behaviour.

The Pendidik2u Facebook page took to their account to share images of a recreational area, where rubbish can be seen littered and left all over the place, even in the river.

They wrote, “Regret giving relaxations when actions are immediately terrible.”

In one of the images, rubbish can be seen spewed under a tree, where a ‘No Littering’ sign was hung, proving once again that Malaysians really just don’t care.

With such attitudes, it’s only fair to regret allowing Malaysians to return to recreational and natural locations, especially considering rivers; recreational parks and other locations had become cleaner during the full lockdowns as Chief Executive of the Malaysian Ecotourism and Conservation Association (EcoMy), Andrew Sebastian, shared with Malaysia Now.

If we are going to litter and destroy the environment, on top of breaking SOPs by crowding spaces, we might as well continue to stay at home and leave nature in peace without our presence.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

What do you think about this? Let us know in the comment section.
