Years after without access to clean water, the residents in Kelantan continue to “cry” for clean water, with the state government promising to end the crisis every year.
This time, on the Facebook page of Urus Setia Penerangan dan Komunikasi Negeri Kelantan, the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly for Kijang, Dato Dr. Izani Husin has given a clear timeline to people in Kelantan in terms of how long they will have to wait for clean water – 3 years.
“The water issue problems will be resolved in 2027 following all the upgrades that will be completed that year. So, in 2028, Kelantan will have an access to more water.”
To get ahead of the schedule, the state government is planning to gradually replace the old pipes that have rusted and will not be able to last for 5,000KM. As of now, 1,000KM of the old pipes have to be replaced immediately.
Despite the severity, there is only so much the state government can do at the time being.
“At the time being, the state government can only carry out replacement works at a distance of 150KM per year. We know the demand for water is getting higher because the population in the state is increasing.”
Dr. Izani also said that the state government will submit the necessary paperwork to the Prime Minister to speed up the replacement works. In such a situation, Dr. Izani is also hoping for more manpower that will undoubtedly speed up the process.
“If we are able to hire more contractors, the distance of the replacement works can be increased to 250KM per year.”
He added that the state government is currently discussing the plan for replacement works with 2 agencies – Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) and the National Water Services Commission (SPAN).
Dr. Izani also hopes that the people in Kelantan be patient for 3 more years before the water issue in the state is resolved once and for all.
Access to clean water is a luxury that everyone deserves, so we hope the authorities will take immediate action in the affected areas for the sake of the people.
