Perikatan Nasional (PN) Youth Chief Ahmad Fahdli Shaari recently made a controversial proposal regarding the upcoming Merdeka Day or Independence Day celebrations in our country.
As reported by Berita Harian, Fadhli wants the states under the coalition, namely Terengganu, Kelantan, Perlis and Kedah to use an alternative theme and motto for the national celebration rather than use the one that was announced at the federal level.
Fahdli, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Pasir Mas said that the alternative theme and logo would be used for celebrations in the respective states, essentially making PN states have a different Merdeka theme and logo than the rest of the country.
Accordingly, PN Youth has launched its own logo and theme for Merdeka Day. The logo inspired by the Bunga Raya and the colours of the Jalur Gemilang can be viewed below, while the theme would be “Teguh Muafakat Malaysia Sejahtera”, or roughly translated to English as, Strong Muafakat (consensus) for a Prosperous Malaysia.
The PN Youth Chief further elaborated that the logo is for PN’s Merdeka Day celebration, whether used in PN leaders’ speeches, specifically for the Youth level and political parties under PN.
He also said that PN Youth would be meeting with the respective state governments under PN to suggest using the alternative logo and theme rather than the federal government’s.
However, as of right now, Fadhli can’t confirm whether the PN state governments would be using the alternative logo and theme as he can’t speak on their behalf.
So, what do you guys think of this controversial proposal? Shouldn’t a national celebration such as Merdeka Day not something that we should politicise? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
