Pestle & Mortar has rattled the streetwear industry in the region yet again. It took a bold step of closing down its Flagship store yesterday (30th August 2018) after 5 years being a prominent figure in the retail space in Bangsar.

What’s their next step?

Taking a bold move to challenge the norm, Pestle & Mortar, in a collaboration with Major Drop, will utilise Major Drop Portals, where the brand will venture into a QR powered online retail space, giving freedom to current and potential followers of the brand to make purchases through their smartphones no matter where they are.

So how do we buy some of their stuff now?

Besides their online portal, you can do so via The Major Drop Portals, which will be placed at any of the Pestle & Mortar Pop Ups. Customers would just need to scan the QR code for the desired product on display. This will lead them straight to the product page on their official website.

After selecting the right size and making the purchase through their payment gateway, customers can decide whether to have the items delivered to their address or they can immediately pick them up at the Pop Up store by presenting their e-receipt.

This is Pestle & Mortar’s journey into the cashless society, embracing the technological movement that creates a hassle free experience for the customers.

Hugh Koh, co-founder of Pestle & Mortar, stated that,

“The brand is much bigger than the store. We want to reach as many people as possible, in the coolest way possible and what better way to do so than bring it back to the streets.”

The CEO of Major Drop, Lim Sheng Feixiang, said, “The internet consumption trend in Malaysia has always been headed towards the portable mobile device as opposed to the traditional desktop/laptop one and retail should be no different. With the Major Drop Portals, we hope to reach beyond the walls of the Bangsar Flagship and the online store as we know it.”

It is exciting to see the current development of the brand and how Pestle & Mortar continues to set standards as well as be innovative in their business model. As sad it is to hear their flagship store shutting down, don’t worry, this is definitely not the last you’ll hear from them!
