On 31 December, a spectator at the side of the circuit who was watching the “CCT Battle of Champions” passed away when receiving treatment at the hospital following a crash between two race cars. You can read more about it here.

In the most recent update, the Perak State Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah has offered his condolences to the victim’s family.

“On behalf of the state government I offer our condolences to the victim’s family and we do very much regret the incident.”

He added that action will be taken once he studies the full report, “I will announce the next course of action after I have gone through the full report including from the local authority on the technical aspects, spectators and racers’ safety, the officials on duty and so forth.”

According to BERNAMA, the post-mortem results showed that the victim had sustained injuries to the head and there was also bleeding in his lungs.

The state official mentioned that they will not compromise on safety and security at every motorsport event and if the state government finds out that the programme was conducted without following standard operating procedures (SOPs), the organisers should be held responsible.

We certainly hope that officials will get to the bottom of this case.
