It’s still somewhat baffling that people think they can ‘chup’ parking spots especially when it has already been established time and time again that the act of obstructing a parking spot is considered a criminal offense.

Yet, here we are, after a man in Penang not only decided to stand in an empty parking spot, stopping a lady from parking in it, but also tried to shame her when she chose to record him in the act, by recording her back.

The video of the incident was shared by the We Are Malaysians Facebook group.

Penang

Penang Lang, please shame this man. It seems some people love to be famous, still "Chupping" parking lot.. Happened at 10:45pm iAutomall, Karpal Singh Drive, Penang. #PDRM #JPJ

We Are Malaysians captioned the posting with, “Penang people, please shame this man. It seems some people love to be famous, still ‘chupping’ parking spaces. Happened at 10:45pm at the iAutomall, Karpal Singh Drive, Penang.”

Referring to the fact that her car was at the spot first, the lady in the car can be heard saying to the man in the spot, “First come, first (serve) basis.”

The man, on the other hand, stubbornly stood in the spot as another man showed up, presumably from the car the man was waiting for. After a quick exchange between the two men where the first one explained what was going on to the second one, they both left, but not before the first man took out his phone to record the woman and her car.

The lady, just before the video ended, can be heard saying to the man, “Let’s see who gets famous.”

It’s only fair to remind these two men that ‘chupping’ parking spots by standing in them can earn you a maximum fine of RM2,000 or face jail time of a maximum of six months, under Section 50 (3) of the Road Transportation Act 1987, for ‘Unlawful interference and importuning”.

That said, has anyone actually been fined for obstructing a parking space? Because these parking ‘chuppers’ don’t seem to be afraid of the law and still boldly go around standing in parking spots.

With all these videos circulating the internet, we hope these parking ‘chuppers’ are brought to justice as a lesson for anyone who still thinks they can pull off such inconsiderate behaviour.

We Are Malaysian’s posting has since garnered over 433 shares.
