On 2 September, the Ministry of Health (MOH) declared that Johor and Penang are now Covid-19-free after the two states recorded zero cases and no new clusters from 20 August to 2 September.

This means that Johor and Penang are now green zones, joining Kelantan, Terengganu, Perak and Negeri Sembilan. Meanwhile, Kuantan district in Pahang turned to yellow zone after one new case was reported on 1 September.

Kedah has the most cases at 31 followed by Selangor (four) and Melaka (two) while Pahang, Perlis and Kuala Lumpur have one case each.

Penang Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow shared on Facebook his excitement that Penang has turned into a green zone again. He shared a photo of the KOMTAR Tower in George Town Penang donned in green lights to celebrate the occasion.

He said the lights had changed from yellow to green on Wednesday night (2 September) and went on to remind the people of Penang to remain vigilant and to abide by the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to keep Penang a green zone.
