With the recent spike in Covid-19 cases, particularly the one associated with the Sivagangga cluster originating from Kedah, Malaysians are becoming more wary of a dreaded ‘second-wave’ heating our shores. However, being vigilant should not translate to being reckless and sharing unverified news about Covid-19 will just bring about needless panic.
That is exactly the case with a recent viral WhatsApp voice message that has been spreading around Malaysia. The 34-second audio message claims that 63 people in Guar Chempedak, Kedah have tested positive for Covid-19.
As reported by Bernama, the message is fake and it was confirmed by Yan district police chief, Shahnaz Akhtar.
Shahnaz further clarified that the number of people who is Covid-19 positive in that area is not that many. Furthermore, he further advised the public to not simply believe in news that they receive via Social Media or any other sources unless there are from legitimate sources.
Especially for Covid-19 cases, the statistics would only be announced by the Ministry of Health who makes a daily press conference on the matter everyday.
Remember guys, check your source before you share anything!
