The release of Yap Xin Yuan’s murder suspects – her boyfriend and his family do not mean the investigation has come to an end. In the latest update by PDRM, the police confirmed the presence of drugs in the victim’s body.

In a media conference yesterday (January 25), the Selangor Police Chief, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed that ecstasy was found in Xin Yuan’s body.

However, at the time being, the substance found in her body cannot be attributed to her cause of death.

“We need to determine whether the amount of drug found in the victim’s body could have caused death or if there was another cause of death.”

Datuk Hussein also pointed out that police are still waiting for the complete forensic and autopsy report of the victim, and several CCTV footages are still being reviewed to collect more evidence.

He said this after officiating a road safety and advocacy campaign in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations at the PJS 2 Toll Plaza, New Pantai Expressway (NPE).

He added that if a suspect has been granted bail, it doesn’t mean he cannot be charged in the future.

“We cannot detain a suspect for more than 14 days. There are cases where we cannot complete the investigation during the remand period.”
