Recently, Malaysian girl group DOLLA took to their social media platforms to share their experience of where they had gotten stopped and investigated by 3 men who they claimed didn’t look like legitimate police officers as they were in plain clothes.
In their post they stated that they were waiting for their ride home on the night of December 20 and a red Proton car had approached them with the windows down.
DOLLA stated that 3 men had stepped out of the car, identified themselves as police officers but failed to present their police badges and were wearing normal clothes and driving an ordinary vehicle.
They claimed that the men went on to take pictures of their ICs and of them without their consent.
The issue became widespread as fans of the group tagged PDRM along with the hashtag #DollaDeservesBetter in hopes of an explanation.
Policemen doing their duties
According to a report by Harian Metro, the accused men were indeed actual policemen.
Serdang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner A A Anbalagan has since denied speculations and allegations that the men were impersonators by releasing a statement stating that they were simply monitoring entertainment centre operations in the Puchong Jaya administrative area.
In contrast to DOLLA’s statement, he said that the 3 policemen actually did show proper identification before asking for the members’ identification cards.
“The action was taken after finding that the 4 women were acting suspiciously by the side of the road at 11:30pm and they were then allowed to leave the location after a police inspection found no wrongdoing.”
Meanwhile, for further investigation, A A Anbalagan has urged the one who wrote the statement on DOLLA’s social media accounts to come forward to help determine if there were any abuse of authority while investigations were carried out.
DOLLA has yet to respond to the statement by the police.
