Over the week, there have been multiple allegations made in regards to the Melaka state elections.

Just recently, pictures and videos of a group of senior citizens lining up to receive their individual rice packs have spread like wildfire on social media. What made those rice packs “unique” was that each and every pack of rice had a piece of RM50 notes attached to it.

Netizens were quick to assume that the incident had taken place in Melaka and that it had political elements as the state election is just around the corner, as reported by Kosmo!

However, the head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the state, Azlan Abu recently confirmed that the distribution of the rice packs had nothing to do with the upcoming state elections as claimed by the netizens.

Additionally, Azlan explained that the incident did not even take place in Melaka.

“After investigation, we did not spot any political elements nor any activities to gain votes.”

The state police had also released a statement via their Facebook page following the spread of this incident on social media.

In the statement, he assured that the police have yet to receive any reports from any parties regarding the incident. However, the police will proceed with the investigation on the matter under Section 233 of the Communication & Multimedia Act. The public are also urged to not spread false information.

“Stern actions will be taken without compromise for every offence committed.”
