It has been a sad and disappointing week for everyone globally. Besides the Black Lives Matter protests that are currently going on in the United States, our nation has also set a frustrating precedent with three drunk driving happening this week. This incident has raised multiple debates regarding alcohol regulation and how it is being enforced in the country.

Earlier in the week, DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Council) decided that they will no longer be granting new liquor licenses, effective immediately. Now, PDRM has just announced that they will be conducting an operation called “Op Mabuk” to identify drunk drivers.

Bernama reported that in a data released by PDRM that from January to May this year, 822 individuals have been arrested in suspicion of drunk driving.

What’s really worrying about this data for the larger part of the three months, the nation has been under quarantine. Yet, some irresponsible people made a conscious decision to drink and drive in this period.

We hope that by this operation, people will be more afraid to drink and drive. Remember, this small decision you made could ruin the lives of so many others.
