One thing we rarely get to see in regards to the job of a Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officer is the dangers they have to go through.

Just yesterday (January 18 – Wednesday), officers in Pandan Indah had arrested a 45-year-old man as he was seen swinging around a huge butcher knife in public, endangering the people around him.

Weapon 8

Videos of the incident have since surfaced online, showcasing officers using a riot shield to protect themselves as the man approached them and swung the butcher knife at them. This didn’t sit well with many as they questioned why the police didn’t use their weapons to protect themselves.

Weapon 9

Some believe that the police should have just shot the man, especially considering he was endangering them.

Weapon 1

“He should feel lucky that the police didn’t plant a 9x19mm (bullet) in his body.”

Weapon 2

“By right the officers need to be given permission to shoot the armed attacker’s leg just so that there will be fear and it will be a lesson to others. That’s just my opinion.”

Weapon 3

“Why are the police not supplied with firearms, in situations like this, the police are allowed to use firearms.”

Others are insisting that the police utilise stun guns and tasers to subdue the man.

Weapon 4

“Taser guns are needed in these kinds of situations.”

Weapon 5

“Do Malaysian police officers not have stun guns?”

Weapon 6

“It’s about time for PDRM to include non lethal weapons in their inventory, like taser guns to handle cases like this.”

While it is said that the suspect has psychiatric problems, residents in the area have also shared that he is a drug consumer.

Weapon 10

The suspect was later arrested after he was taken down with a kick to the back by a member of the public and he was even beaten with sticks by a crowd as an officer handcuffed the man.

What do you think about this? Should PDRM officers be allowed to use their firearms in situations like this or should they be supplied with tasers?

Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
