Recently, Noor Jehan Abu Bakar, an environmental activist, found herself in hot water for tweeting about VVIPs arriving late to an event she was at. She was then called in for questioning by the police for defaming the VVIP, Regent of Pahang Tengku Hassanal, the organiser of the event; Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), and the Kuantan City Council.

Following the incident, Pahang Regent Tengku Hassanal personally apologised to her about the situation via his Instagram page and after she was questioned by the police, Noor Jehan compared how swiftly she was called in to help with the investigation when high-powered criminals still roamed free.

Now, the Parti Aspirasi Sains Malaysia (SAINS), in which Noor Jehan serves as an executive member, is showing their solidarity with the activist in the most direct way, in a statement directed towards the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

In the statement, they wrote, “Parti Aspirasi Sains Malaysia (Sains) is aware of Ms Noor Jehan Bakar, who has been called by the Kuantan District Police Headquarters to give a testimony regarding the thread she sent recently.”

“Sains believes that Ms Jehan, who is also a member of Sains’s executive body, has not done anything wrong and the whole party stands in solidarity with her and urges the authorities to immediately stop the intimidation against people who only voice their views.”

But wait, there’s more.

They then sarcastically and bluntly told the police to stick to what they know, i.e. escorting VVIPs.

Sains suggest that the authorities channel effort and manpower towards more ‘important matters’ such as escorting VVIPs who have been convicted of crimes which are described as the biggest kleptocracy crimes in the world,” they added.

We can’t wait to see if PDRM will actually respond to this.

Stay tuned for more updates.
