336 passengers of an Ekspres Rakyat Timuran (ERT) train were given the scare of their lives when their train had collided with 14 cows at Kilometer 84.5 to Kilometer 84.75, between Bahau and the Triang station in Pahang, on Wednesday morning (November 1).

According to a report by Sinar Harian, the Bera District Police Chief Superintendent Zulkiflee Nazir shared that the incident took place at 3:10am, where the train suffered significant damage to the engine and the BP, MV and vacuum pipes, which were broken.

Though, thankfully, no passengers were injured.

“No obstacles were found on the runway area. The journey of the train, which involves 8 carriages, from Gemas to Tumpat, then continued after the damage inspection was done,” he said.

Sadly, all 14 cows were found dead as a result of the collision.

Superintendent Zulkiflee also shared that the number of cases involving trains and livestock has become more frequent in recent times.

“This incident invites danger and risk to passengers even though there has been no injuries or loss of life before. So, we remind breeders to be responsible with their livestock,” he said, adding that there must be enforcement by the relevant parties to prevent worse incidents in the future.
