“OKU Smile is now available” – M’sian OKU Communities Can Finally Utilise Public Transport for FREE

Great news for the OKU communities in Malaysia! Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) has just announced that the ‘OKU Smile’ subscription pass is now available, starting from January 15, 2024 and is set to commence on February 1, 2024,

Starting from February 1, 2024, Malaysian OKU communities can utilise public transport for free.

According to the official statement, the introduction of the ‘OKU Smile’ subscription pass follows the announcement made by the Malaysian Minister of Transport, YB Anthony Loke, on December 21, 2023.

This initiative aims to provide complimentary fare benefits for the OKU community on all rail and bus services operated by Prasarana.

The OKU Smile pass is open to both current Prasarana OKU concession cardholders and those applying for the first time.

For existing cardholders, they can subscribe to or activate the OKU Smile pass at various locations, including Rapid KL LRT, MRT, Monorail, BRT, and selected bus hub counters starting January 15, 2024.

These counters are strategically placed in areas such as Pasar Seni, Chow Kit, KLCC, Sri Nilam, Puchong Utama, Pearl Point, Sunway Pyramid, Greenwood, and Seksyen 2 Shah Alam for Rapid KL. Rapid Penang and Rapid Kuantan have counters at multiple locations.

Cardholders with expired cards need to apply for a new one. New applicants must bring their identification card and OKU card issued by the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) for verification.

While Rapid KL and Rapid Kuantan users have the option of applying online through their website.

The introduction of the OKU Smile pass is a significant stride towards creating an inclusive and accessible public transportation system in Malaysia, highlighting the nation’s dedication to enhancing the quality of life for all its citizens.
