Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has encouraged Malaysians to consider using TuJu, a local navigation app developed by the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), as an alternative to Waze.
In a Facebook post, he cited concerns over information security and the handling of citizens’ movement data linked to the use of Waze.

Concerns over Waze’s data security due to Israeli government laws
According to Anwar, the concerns stem from the security risks surrounding Waze, which is subject to Israeli government laws.
He said the matter was among the topics discussed when he chaired the 3rd 2026 meeting of the National Cyber Security Committee (JKSN) yesterday (20 October), which focused on reviewing cyber threats and strengthening the country’s preparedness and digital sovereignty.
The meeting also covered the implementation of the Cyber Security Act 2024, MyDigital ID security, preparations for quantum computing threats through post-quantum cryptography (PQC), emerging threats posed by autonomous artificial intelligence, and the protection of National Critical Information Infrastructure (NCII).

“Malaysia’s data and identities cannot be compromised”
Anwar stressed that the security of Malaysians’ data and identities cannot be compromised, adding that the government is strengthening its integrated identity system, with MyKad serving as a physical credential and MyDigital ID for digital transactions.
“In this regard, the use of TuJu, a local navigation application developed by the LLM, is encouraged as an alternative.
“We cannot compromise on the security of citizens’ data and identities. Therefore, the government is strengthening the integrated identity ecosystem, with MyKad serving as a physical credential and MyDigital ID for digital transactions, supported by stronger cybersecurity measures, including preparations for future threats through PQC,” he wrote.
