Berita Harian reported that these arrests were made following the action of the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) Kota Tinggi IPD to make a urine screening test on 16 prisoners from Ulu Choh Prison who were detained in the lockup, on November 22.

From the screening, five inmates were tested positive for methamphetamine. As a result of the police inspections in the lock-up, they  managed to seize a number of syabu drugs weighing 38.65 grams worth RM3,865, 42.25 grams of heroin worth RM2,112.50 and some tobacco.

The drug screening also showed that two of the police officers and the civilian also tested positive for methamphetamine. According to Bernama, one of the policeman also has a past criminal record related to gang robbery in 2017.

This is the first time the arrests have been made as previously no reports were filed.

“We will conduct a thorough investigation and firm action will be taken against any non-supervising officer, who has no accountability aspects. “

Following this incident, senior officers and policemen at the Kota Tinggi District Police Headquarters (IPD) will face stern action, including dismissal. The case is currently being investigated under Section 39B, Section 39A(1), Section 6, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
