Being a parent is undoubtedly one of the most difficult jobs you could do. It’s a difficult balance between allowing your children to have the freedom to express themselves versus making sure to discipline them to not do anything silly.

Recently a tweet by a user named Syed went viral as he shared his thoughts on strict parents.

In his tweet, he writes, “I used to hate having strict parents when I was in secondary school.”

“(But) looking at the degeneration around me right now, I am thankful for strict parents.”

Plenty of users are grateful too!

His tweet has amassed plenty of attention and currently sits on over 33,900 likes and 18,800 shares. It has also sparked a debate on whether or not having strict parents is a good thing or will it just do more harm than good.

Plenty of users commented how grateful they are for having strict parents.

We all used to be at stages where we hated it when our parents were strict with us. But now I feel grateful for having strict parents. It helped to stop me from getting into relationships and dating when I was still in school,” commented a user.

Another user said, “True! My parents were strict till I was form 5. Now as I am older, I miss the times where they would always ask me what I was doing.”

Actually when we’re older we can go out anywhere and our parents won’t mind. As long as you don’t get home too late, they’ll trust us,” said another user.

But others say this will only lead to problems

On the other hand, some users say that there must be a limit on how strict parents are, as unreasonably strict parents can lead to the child having problems in the future.

One user said, “Unreasonably strict parents won’t have a good relationship with their children. They don’t share their feelings openly and cannot sit and discuss. Wild kids mostly grow up in a broken home.”

Too strict won’t be good either. I have friends whose parents were so strict and always angry that they either become super wild, super timid or insecure even now,” commented a user.

What do you think? Is having strict parents important or will it lead to more problems. Let us know in the comments.
