The Unity Government led by 10th Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim (DSAI) has been in power for only 5 months but it appears that some believe he is not working fast enough.
An NGO is now coming under fire for saying that DSAI may potentially become the worst Prime Minister Malaysia has seen if he does not fulfill his promises to the people.
BFM News took to their Twitter page to share the statement made by Suara Rakyat Malaysia (SUARAM), on the risk of DSAI becoming the worst Prime Minister ever should he fail to deliver reforms he highlighted during his days as the Opposition.
Additionally, they said that the Unity Government has been slow to act on the introduction of policies and reforms to protect human rights.
“Although we saw the abolition of the mandatory death penalty, it’s still a low-hanging fruit. You can’t beat the drums (of reform) using low-hanging fruit as there are so many other laws that need to be amended,” said SUARAM executive director, Sevan Doraisamy.
He added that DSAI’s focus should be on Sosma, the Sedition Act and measures against custodial deaths.
“If we compare the PM now and before, I want to say Anwar is the better choice due to his reform agenda and background. But with that baggage, if he fails to deliver, he would be the worst PM as the previous PM didn’t promise much in reforms.”
This rubbed many the wrong way as there has very obviously been way worst Prime Ministers in the past
The people also defended DSAI and the Unity Government (considering they have only been in power for 5 months and are not here to only fulfill SUARAM’s demands) and bashed the NGO
Considering it’s only been months into DSAI’s term and that there really is too much to focus on, maybe perhaps give him some time and wait for him to do something worse than becoming corrupt or laughing at the #WhiteFlagCampaign before calling him the potential worst PM.
