We all know that a typical water bill is nowhere near as expensive as electricity. That said, who wouldn’t be shocked to see their water bill suddenly jump to RM5,000?

A woman was shocked to discover that her water bill had skyrocketed from the usual RM50 to RM5,000, an incident she couldn’t keep to herself.

The bill shows that she consumed 2,029 cubic metres of water

She quickly took to the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu to share her experience, hoping to find answers or connect with others who may have faced similar situations.

In the post, her latest bill of RM5,277 revealed that she had consumed 2,029 cubic metres of water. She suspected there might be an error, possibly caused by the replacement of the water meter.

“They replaced my water meter without informing me. I’m not sure whether it’s a new meter or not, as I was not notified about the replacement,” she explained.

“I told the inspector to use his brain”

She went on to reveal that the meter reading started from 2,000 cubic metres instead of zero. In reality, she claims she had only used 29 cubic metres of water.

Upon noticing this discrepancy, she promptly reached out to Air Selangor to report the issue and get clarification. She contacted customer service, and a female representative confirmed that her meter reading had indeed started from 2,000 instead of zero.

“An inspector called me and said he did not agree with what the female customer service representative had claimed. He assured me that he would arrange for another inspection. I asked him if a burst water pipe could really result in a bill exceeding RM5,000. Has anyone else faced a similar issue? What steps can I take to resolve it?”
