When you have a medical emergency, you’d definitely want to have a doctor come to your rescue as soon as possible, especially if it is a matter of life and death.

However, a pregnant woman who needed to have an emergency C-section because her unborn baby was drowning refused to be treated because she didn’t want a male doctor.

A doctor working in Malaysia shared on Twitter his encounter of how he was refused by his patient who didn’t want him to treat her because he was a man.

He shared that he had a pregnant patient who was pushed to emergency C-section due to fetal distress. The unborn baby was said to be drowning for reasons unknown, so the doctor rushed from the ground floor to the operation theatre to conduct an immediate operation.

However, right as he reached the operation theatre, the mother gave him a face of disapproval and said in Malay, “I DON’T WANT A MALE DOCTOR!”

In the next tweet, he shares that this is not a situation where the woman can demand for a female staff since it’s an emergency.

“Your baby is struggling to live.”

“There are only about two to three people working that night and it’s not my fault if I so happened to be a man.”

He also mentions that the woman believes in anti-vaccination, but that she should know this is an emergency.

“You’re free to choose; the choices are yours and we respect that. But just know when it comes down to this kind of situation, leave it to the experts,” he said.

In the end, the woman had no choice but to let the doctor operate on her as there weren’t enough female staff at the time.

Hopefully the baby’s life was saved, but the fact that the woman was willing to risk the life of her unborn baby just because she didn’t want a male doctor is completely outrageous.
