Nowadays, traveling is so much more accessible because there’s a huge price range for accommodation options. While many of us would probably go for the mid-range hotels, it’s fun to experiment sometimes, especially if you’re traveling alone!
This is exactly what Ian (@ianlim.xk) did when he visited Kuala Lumpur (KL) for a solo trip. Instead of the typical single bedroom with an en suite bathroom, he decided to stay in a shared dorm, where his bed only cost RM40 a night!
At the beginning of the video, Ian takes us through the area which the dorm is located in. The entire dorm including the reception area, the living room and the bedroom is actually all within one condominium unit. The condo complex is also quite fancy and just walking distance from KLCC!
However, the catch is that guests of the dorm don’t get access cards to take the lift up, so every time you enter, you’d need to ask for the security guard’s help and write down your name, as if you’re visiting your friend at their condo unit.
Reviewing the bedroom
Then, Ian gives a short tour of the bedroom, which has ten bunk beds all squeezed into the master bedroom of the unit! There’re only curtains separating each bed and lockers are also provided.
“It felt like I was living in a refugee camp,” Ian said of his experience staying in the cramped room.
Each bed also came with its own plug socket, a light, a pillow and a towel, though Ian said that the towel smelled like cockroaches.
It’s giving capsule hotel vibes, but actual capsule hotels are probably not so cramped!
All in all, Ian said that although it was a strange experience, the staff were really friendly and the service was a 10/10. “Can’t argue with the price. It’s RM40 a night,” he added.
Netizens have mixed reactions
In the comments, some netizens were confused and amused by the dorm setup and others thought that it’s illegal having so many people in one room like that.
