By now, you should know that using your mobile phone when driving is a punishable offense but unfortunately, many Malaysian drivers are still dividing their attention between the road and the phone when they’re behind the wheel.

Just recently, another Malaysian driver learned her lesson the hard way when she was fined for using her mobile phone while driving. In her Facebook account, Daphne said that she has received a lot of summons in her life but none of them fears her as much as this, whereby she had to be present in court.

“I used to think that if money can solve it, there’s nothing to be afraid of but not this time. I had to go to the court to pay my fine.”

Could she have chosen to skip going to the court? Of course she could! But it will cost Daphne her driving license and she didn’t want things to end that way.

Save yourself the explanation

Daphne then shared the SOPs to attend court and pay fine. While it may sound easy enough, we can tell you that it’s definitely time and energy-consuming.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re using Waze, save yourself the explanation. If you’re caught using phone while driving, it means the police officer has targeted you for quite some time and he will only approach you when he’s certain that you’re on your phone.”

The 1st thing to do is NOT to throw away the fine. You’ll need that to bring to the court. The date and time to attend the court are specified on it too.

Daphne reached the court at 8am, where she produced her IC for registration and the waiting game began.

She waited for hours until everyone who was there to pay the fine was called into the court but the waiting game continued for Daphne until 12pm, when it was finally her turn to speak to the judge.

“I pleaded guilty because I knew my mistake. Aside from an apology, I didn’t know what else to say.”

Just when she thought she could pay the fine and be done with it, Daphne still had to wait for everyone to complete their session in court and pay the fine together. Her fine, which was initially RM1,000, was reduced to RM250.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Daphne said that she spent a total of 8 hours at the court just to pay a fine. She also reminded others about the dress code to attend the court.

“No shorts. Long pants, shoes, collared, long-sleeve shirts are the most ideal. No make-up is necessary, the judge won’t fall for your beauty.”

Kudos to Daphne for admitting her mistake, and we hope her experience will serve as a reminder to other drivers out there to always leave your phone aside when you’re driving.
