The Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA) took to its Facebook page to remind Malaysians of a meteor shower that will peak starting today (December 13).
They wrote, “The Geminids Meteor Shower takes place every year from November 19 to December 24. In Malaysia, the peak of this phenomenon is expected to occur on the night of December 13, 2024 (Friday), until the dawn of December 14, 2024 (Saturday), with an average of up to 150 meteors per hour.”
“This time, the appearance of the meteor shower will be slightly disturbed by the light of the almost full moon (maxing gibbous). However, it will be clearly visible after the moon sets, which is approximately 5:45am, until before the sun rises.”
MYSA also included tips to help improve your Geminids Meteor Shower viewing experience:
- Make sure you observe the meteor shower in an open area, without obstacles such as tall buildings, trees or houses.
- Try to get a wide view of the sky.
- Avoid bright environments. Darker areas without light interference, such as street lights, are best.
- Adjust your eyes to the darkness for 15 to 20 minutes.
- You do not need to focus only on the Gemini constellation to see the meteor shower. It can appear from many directions and at any time.
Happy viewing!
