To get diagnosed with serious illness at a young age is a nightmare. This explains why medical checkups aren’t only important but your food consumption plays an equal important role too.

A genetic illness, like diabetes can come knocking at the door especially if you eat lots of sugary things every day. In a TikTok post by @kedidi_kakipalsu, a 29-year-old Malaysian woman from Jerantut, Pahang revealed that her left leg was amputated 2 years back when her diabetic condition worsened.

The woman got to know about her condition more than a decade ago when she was contacted to join the National Service Training Programme. Prior to joining the training, all participants were required to go for a medical check up. When the doctor told her not to join the training, that was when she sensed something was off.

“The doctor was concern about my nutrient intake, and he said I might not be able to take my medications due to the schedule of the training.”

It was only months after her medical checkup that she found out she was diagnosed with diabetes.

“The medicines did not help, so the doctor continued by giving me insulin.”

When asked about her sugar intake, the woman admitted that when she was still in secondary school, she was a huge fan of snacks and junk food.

“Especially Super Ring and Twisties.”

Junk food was not the only contribution but her family also has a history of diabetes.

Not long ago, we shared a similar story about a diabetic man who lost his right leg after the illness worsened, and the man admitted to having Teh Tarik for every meal, every day.

Sometimes, our guilty pleasures may turn out to be something that would seal our fate. Consuming sugary stuff may feel good at times but moderation is always the best.
