A Malaysian man went viral after CCTV footage showed him violently and repeatedly caning his nephews at home, before throwing a chair at one of them.

During the ordeal, the man’s parents were seated in the living room and appeared to take no action to stop their son from hitting the young children, who could be heard screaming in pain and fear.

The video, which is circulating on Reddit and Facebook, prompted a relative, who wished to remain anonymous, to come forward, claiming that this was not the children’s first traumatic experience. According to the relative, the children had endured multiple beatings by their uncle in the past.

In the footage, the man was also seen pulling another child off a sofa and beating him severely, before cutting up a pair of shoes in front of the child. The shoes were said to have been the boy’s birthday present.

Soon after the CCTV footage went viral, a second video began circulating online. The clip, which was recorded shortly before the beating, showed the events that allegedly led to the “punishment”.

“He tried to take the cane away because he was afraid,” the relative said.

In the video, one of the children is seen provoking his grandmother by touching the cane she was holding and pushing her. She then swung the cane around and had a brief argument with the child. The elderly woman subsequently contacted her son to inform him of the incident, after which the uncle returned home and assaulted the children.

The relative added that the child had attempted to take the cane away because he feared being beaten again.

“The children’s mother is working in Singapore, and due to marital issues, her children are staying with the grandparents in Petaling Jaya,” the relative said.

Both boys, aged nine and 12, were later sent to hospital for treatment. The relative claimed that the 12-year-old has difficulty walking and is suffering from psychological trauma, according to a report by China Press.

Petaling Jaya district police chief briefly told Sin Chew that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) are currently investigating the case.
