Just 4 months ago, a Malaysian content creator tragically took her own life after reporting the severe cyberbullying she faced on TikTok.
In connection with her case, a 35-year-old influencer was arrested for defamation and making threats against her, while a lorry driver who was also a netizen involved in the situation, was charged with 2 counts of making obscene and shameful communications on TikTok.
The lorry driver has been sentenced to 1 year in prison
Harian Metro reported that the lorry driver was sentenced to 12 months in prison for posting obscene and humiliating content about the mother of the late Rajeswary, also known as Esha.
Judge Siti Aminah Ghazali sentenced B Sathiskumar after the defendant changed his plea to guilty during today’s case mention.
The court imposed a 12-month prison sentence for each charge and ordered the defendant to serve the sentences concurrently from the date of his arrest on July 10.
He apologised for his mistakes
Before the court delivered the sentence against the 40-year-old, the defendant apologised, acknowledged his wrongdoing, and promised not to repeat the offence.
According to the 1st charge, the man was accused of posting something inappropriate, intending to hurt others through TikTok using the profile name “@dulal_brothers_360” on June 30 at 10:12 PM.
For the 2nd charge, Sathiskumar was accused of humiliating and disturbing P R Puspa, 56, the mother of the late Esha, through the TikTok application using the same profile name on the same date, time, and place.
We hope this serves as a lesson to all keyboard warriors out there!
