A Malaysian content creator had sadly taken her own life after filing a report on the extreme cyberbullying she was receiving through TikTok. Following this, a 35-year-old influencer was arrested in relation to the defamation and threats that the victim had endured before her passing.

Many are now wondering what led to the immense cyberbullying that the content creator had to endure. While the exact reason is still being investigated by the authorities, there’s something on the victim’s social media that’s worth noting.

The victim, Rajeswary Appahu, more affectionately known as Esha, had taken to her social media accounts to act as a whistleblower in regards to a cosmetic product that was (we say ‘was’ because the product has since been banned thanks to the deceased) allegedly harmful.

In January, Esha took to her TikTok account to warn the general public in regards to a cosmetics face cream that apparently contained harmful substances, and shared that she had lodged a report to the Ministry of Health (KKM) about this. She, herself, had adverse effects from using the product.

On top of that, the product, which was apparently made in Thailand and repackaged in Malaysia, was allegedly advertised as though it was made in France and Sweden.

Days later, she shared that she had lodged a report to the Ministry of Health (KKM) about the product and expressed her disappointment over how KKM was dealing with her complaint.

In March, KKM officially announced a ban on the product as it contained mercury.

Considering how she was helping to create awareness about harmful products, Malaysians who had heard of her passing flooded her video to share their sympathies and well wishes.

“Thank you, Esha. You’re a good person and you just didn’t want netizens to spoil their skin by using bad products. RIP, Esha, and I hope Esha’s family stays strong.”

Many have since also pointed out that the bullying Esha endured had allegedly started from her campaign against the cosmetic product that contained mercury, though this has not been confirmed by the authorities.
