Pets often act as a good housemate and guest for those who adore the company of 4-legged fluffy creatures. And while many of us love our domesticated animals to bits, we often forget that they have full personalities and characteristics just like us.
This moment was clearer than day in a video shared by a Malaysian dog owner named Surase of an interaction between himself and his pet Husky named Karnan to his TikTok page @sai_surase. In the video, Karnan simply expressed his disdain towards Surase’s order for him to go to sleep, with the two ending up in a non-verbal, yet extremely expressive “argument”.
Oh and we forgot to mention – Karnan understands Tamil fluently, which was the language Surase used to converse with him throughout the clip.
At the beginning of the video, Karnan stared at Surase with a look of displeasure on his face, as Surase asked him why he couldn’t go to sleep alone. Whining and moving towards his owner to playfully bite him, Surase asked Karnan to go to his bedroom and sleep, as he was clearly tired.
“What is this, boy? You’re going to sleep, why must I follow? Go sleep, boy. The air conditioner is already turned on, go sleep in my room,” said Surase to Karnan while speaking in fluent Tamil.
Encouraging Karnan to not be scared, the dog, who clearly understood Surase, went towards him and hit him with his paw, so as to express his playful frustration.
Towards the end of the video, Karnan’s frustrations towards Surase reach its peak, and the dog walked away to lie down on the living room floor, continuing to whine through the conversation. Sitting on the floor, Karnan did not even look at Surase’s direction, as he resumed waiting in silence.
In a brief conversation with WORLD OF BUZZ, Surase revealed that he had been speaking to Karnan in Tamil since he adopted the pup at 3 months old. Currently, Karnan can also understand English as well, though it would be considered his second language.
“I went to a Tamil school and I love the language so much. So as our 1st language, I always communicate with him for all his needs – food, to go to the toilet, to drink water, and also to go out,” said Surase to WORLD OF BUZZ.
Garnering an adorable response online, many users expressed how impressed they were with Karnan’s ability to understand Tamil.
“When you take care of them from young, they are clever to remember this, even the language. So cute this husky,” wrote one user.
Nevertheless, others were also amused with Karnan’s cheeky behaviour, with some saying that he probably wanted Surase to read him a bedtime story, while other viewers who don’t understand Tamil said that they just played along while watching the video.
“Hahaha, Karnan is a good boy right? Go sleep, don’t disturb your owner okay!” jokingly advised one user.
