A lot of rules have been set before the pandemic, including the smoking ban in eateries. Unfortunately, many Malaysians seemed to have forgotten about the rule, or some of them might just be ignorant about it.
Most of the time, the public tends to turn a blind eye to those who violate the no-smoking rule but not this brave man. In an incident that took place at an undisclosed location of a Mamak restaurant, the man approached an uncle who was smoking at the premise, despite the no-smoking sign attached to every table.
The uncle in green did not take it well, and in a way, he told the man to mind his own business.
“Are you an officer? Even the workers here did not ask me to stop smoking!”
The man, who was still seated then told the elderly,
“I approached you politely about the no-smoking rule, but you’re the one being rude here.”
His response fueled the uncle’s rage even further, who started to point his finger at the man. The original video has since been removed, but it has been reshared by many netizens, including a Twitter page, Malaysia Most Viral.
The matter has since reached the attention of the Ministry of Health (KKM) and last night (April 30), they have since responded to the incident via a tweet.
“We take note on this and thank you for your concern.”
“Stricter actions please, KKM!”
Malaysians took the opportunity to remind KKM about the need to take stern action against those who violate the rule, as well as the business operators who allowed its customer to smoke despite the warning sign.
“KKM, please check on this, especially the Mamak restaurants. The workers are afraid to approach because their boss has to be answerable for that. It’ll cause a fight and jeopardise our safety. If you need data for the location of the Mamak restaurants, we’ll happily provide you.”
“KKM, please investigate the business operator too. It’s impossible for them to oversee the smokers on the premise. Sue the business operators if possible, so they’ll know what to do next time when dealing with a smoker.”
“He said the workers have never told him off for smoking. Please take stern action on the premise, KKM.”
“Please take stern actions more frequently. It was an eyesore for me to see a father rolling his cigarettes in the car with the kids there.”
“Weak enforcement. You guys did frequent enforcement when this ban was just introduced. Today, we have a lot of smokers and vapers at the eateries, and they’ll get upset when confronted.”
“Please check on this, KKM. Check on all premises, be it Warung, Mamak restaurants, or even the food courts. Smokers nowadays don’t care even when there are toddlers or pregnant mothers. Please ambush the premises and sue them.”
“Please, continue to enforce the smoking ban at eateries. It’s getting out of hand.”
In case you spot an illegal smoker, you can notify the authorities via WhatsApp.
It wouldn’t harm to give your lung a rest from the cancer stick. The least you can do is be considerate of others because not everyone no one enjoys being exposed to secondhand smoke, which causes even more harm.
