A man in Kelantan faced a terrifying situation when a metre-long cobra suddenly emerged when he wanted to use the toilet in his house at Kampung Peringat on Wednesday (May 28).

The 46-year-old man managed to escape and contacted the Kota Bharu Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) for help at around 11:22am.

According to a report by Sinar Harian, an APM officer, Major (PA) Mohd Saiful Azam Ismail shared that it took them about 7 minutes to capture the snake.

He also insisted that the general public beware of snakes entering houses through drains and advised people to place heavy objects on drain covers and toilet lids to prevent access for these reptiles.

“In the current weather conditions, we advise the public to ensure that drain covers in toilets are tightly closed. Additionally, you can also place weights on toilet lids to prevent snakes from entering through drains,”

“This is because damp areas are often the location of concentration for venomous animals during hot weather,” he explained.

Never face a snake yourself!

Major (PA) Mohd Saiful also urged the public to immediately call the 999 emergency line if they see a reptile, and not to spray it with any chemicals such as insect spray. It is best to allow rescue teams to do their job.

Also, for those who enjoy gardening activities, he insists that flower pots should not be arranged too closely together.

“Make sure the area around the house does not become bushy, that can become hiding places for snakes,” he added.
