Earlier this week, Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming, came under fire after his MPV was spotted tailgating an ambulance allegedly to get out of a traffic jam. He was also requested to step forward and explain the MPV driver’s actions, no matter if he was in the vehicle or not at the time.

Now, he is once again in the spotlight, this time for proposing to nominate Kampung Baru Cina in Selangor as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to recognise the cultural and historical significance of the settlement.

Local film director, Michael Ang, took to his Instagram page to condemn Nga Kor Ming for the suggestion, adding that the proposal can cause further division among Malaysians.

He wrote, “Greetings. These politicians truly make us wonder what else they would do to make Malaysians’ blood boil. Can’t you do something that would make Malaysians feel proud of you all?”

Why not Kampung Baru MALAYSIA?

In his post, he shared that the suggestion to make Kampung Baru Cina would cause disharmony among the people and the Minister should focus on building a more racially inclusive Malaysia.

Aduh, who is this Kor Ming. Like to cause trouble. Historic site? UNESCO? For something that is less than 100-years-old? I’m Chinese and even I don’t know that there’s this Kampung Baru Cina in Kuala Lumpur. As far as I know, Kepong and Cheras are the Chinese settlements in Kuala Lumpur. Can someone tell me where is this Kampung Baru Cina?

Nevermind the fact that things like this can cause fights among the people, there are many other things that can be done. Try making a Kampung Baru MALAYSIA, where all races live together in harmony. Wouldn’t that be better? But he doesn’t want to do that, he just wants to split us Malaysians apart,” Michael Ang added.
