This Malaysian family must be cursing their luck as just a mere 60 minutes after picking up their brand new Proton X50 from the showroom, the SUV became submerged in the recent flood in Puchong, Selangor.

This unfortunate incident was shared by Facebook user Azharul Azri in a post that had caught the attention of Malaysians.

In the post, Azharul Azri shared two photos, one of the family picking up the Proton X50 from the showroom and the other of the same vehicle being partially submerged in flood waters at a road in Puchong.

He elaborated the context of the photos in the post’s caption, saying that the Malaysian family, a married couple with a young child, bought the Proton X50 from his younger sibling, who is presumably a Proton sales representative.

Azharul Azri asserted,

“My sibling delivered the SUV to the customer at 5pm. At 6pm, the customer’s SUV was submerged by the flood.”

Thankfully, it was revealed that the customer added special perils coverage for the brand new Proton X50, hence the damages caused by the natural disaster was covered.

Azharul Azri, who is also a sales agent then elaborated the importance of this additional coverage, saying that technologically-advanced vehicles such as the Proton X50 can incur repair costs of up to tens of thousands of ringgit if it become submerged underwater.

He then said that sales agents don’t earn much when customers add on the additional coverage, sometimes just around RM10. What they want is for customers to have peace of mind if incidents such as this happen.
