With all the perverts and bad people out there, it looks like we have to be always on our guard no matter where we go! In yet another case that took place at a shopping mall, a lady shared her experience on Facebook where she discovered a stalker who was following her and her toddler around the mall and it turns out that this was not his first time doing so. The incident took place at Atria Shopping Gallery at Petaling Jaya.
In her post, she said that she was walking around the concourse floor with her toddler in a trolley and walked into a pharmacy when she noticed a man out of the corner of her eye. He was clad in a grey top, black pants and a black cap and was staring at her while he pretended to look at makeup too.
“I felt something amiss, so I walked further into the pharmacy and he followed. When I turned to confront him, he grabbed a facial cleanser off the shelf pretending to smell the bottle. I immediately walked out of the pharmacy and walked towards the middle concourse and he followed me. As I was safer in a public area, I was about to confront him but the moment I turned, he went and hid behind the lingerie pop up stands,” she said.
She tried to seek help by approaching a mother and her adult son sitting nearby and told them what happened which was when a security guard passed by. She caught his attention and as they had a language barrier, she was told to go up to the security department at the fourth floor to make a report.
“As I was led to the customer service counter, I saw the stalker again and pointed him out to the security guards, the moment he saw me pointing at him, he dashed out of the mall and the two security guards followed. At the customer service counter, all they could do was to pull up a form for me to file my complaint. I demanded to see the centre manager and was told they only had a duty manager,” she explained.
The duty manager thanked her for the report but did not do anything else even when the lady said that the stalker looked like he was up to no good. “I was willing to spend the time to do it and even told her the possibilities of him following other women and them getting molested, or even raped,” she wrote.
In a few updates she included in her post, she said that someone who works in one of the shops in Atria Shopping Gallery contacted her and shared photos of the stalker taken from their CCTV. Apparently, this is not the first time he has been lurking around the mall with one netizen even commenting that he had followed her into the washroom. WTF, so scary!
After her post went viral, a few other ladies have reached out to her and said that they saw the same guy following them around before in the mall. It appears that he likes to target lone females who are with their young kids but he also likes to follow other females walking around the mall.
In response to this incident, Atria’s management has come out with a statement on their Facebook page and said that they have lodged a police report. They also advised other shoppers who have the misfortune to encounter the suspicious person to make a report as well and briefed their security guards to take action if they see this guy again. Atria said that they have issued a circular with the stalker’s photo to all tenants so that they can be alert if the guy appears.
The lady said that she would be lodging a police report soon as well so that the police have enough information and she also warns others that they should be on the lookout for the stalker. She said, “This post is for everyone to be vigilant to look out for each other and keep safe!”
Be alert and stay safe, everyone!
