Most of us Malaysians like to exercise at night, whether it is going to the gym, playing futsal or badminton. It is something that we look forward to during the daytime as it helps us de-stress, and it’s also a way for us to lose the fats we gain from sitting in the office.
This doctor, however, says that doing sports at night might not be such a great idea after all. He even calls it “The Silent Killer” as it will increase your chances of high blood pressure and heart problems, reported Sinar.
Dr Zubaidi Ahmad of the Malaysian Islamic Doctors Association (PERDIM) says that doing sports or exercising at night will use up a lot of energy, which might turn into some unhealthy symptoms and endanger your health if not done correctly.
He further explains,
“On average, people spend about 8 hours working daily and they need time to rest. So, by doing sports at night, your body will become sluggish because it is forced to work.”
“We’re forcing our body to work by doing vigorous sports and this will in turn make our blood pressure go up all at once and it can cause high blood pressure and other heart problems.”
He added that exercising at night will also disrupt a person’s sleep cycle. He clarified that this does not mean we can’t do ANY sports at all at night, we can still do some light sports that doesn’t require much energy.
“But if you really want to exercise, then it’s better to do it in the morning and also according to your own capabilities. Forcing your body to do something that you can’t really do is not the way to go.”
He said that it is not uncommon for someone young to die while they were exercising and so, he urges everyone to get medical check-ups before doing any strenuous activities, even if they are young.
How many of you go to the gym or play any sports at night and what is your take on this? Tell us in the comments!
