The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bukit Bendera, Syerleena Abdul Rashid, is currently highlighting the plight of a semi-retired Malaysian coach who dedicated his life to training and championing para-athletes. Despite his years of service, he has ended up living temporarily in an assisted living care centre with no permanent home to call his own.
Taking to her Facebook page, Syerleena recalled visiting the coach, Narayanasamy a/l Doraisamy, some time ago when he was living in a small rented room. She recently visited him again, only to find him residing in the care centre.

A quiet strength
Reflecting on his contribution, she wrote:
“A semi-retired coach, he spent years training para-athletes, pouring his time, energy, and soul into helping others believe in themselves, even when the world didn’t.
“There was something unforgettable about him: no complaints, no self-pity, just quiet strength and a deep love for the athletes he once guided.”
She continued, noting the bittersweet nature of his current situation:
“He has since moved into an assisted living care centre. A safe space, yes, but still temporary. As we sat and spoke, I couldn’t help but feel the weight of his journey. A man who gave so much of himself to others is now searching for a place he can finally call home. It makes you pause, because behind every medal won by a para-athlete, and behind every success story we celebrate, there are people like Narayanasamy.”
She will assist in finding a home for Narayanasamy

Syerleena explained that the coach had effectively been left behind after years of dedication, and she has pledged to step in to ensure he secures a permanent residence.
“When the cheering fades, who takes care of them?” she asked.
“This visit wasn’t just a check-in; it was a reminder that dignity in ageing matters. Those who dedicate their lives to empowering others deserve stability, care, and a place to belong. We are now working to help Narayanasamy find a permanent home, one where he can rest with the same dignity he gave to so many. A man who helped others stand tall should never have to face life alone.”
