Work is, no doubt, important. However, there are occasions when you have to put aside your work and tend to other matters, especially those related to life and death.
A Malaysian employee was recently robbed of that opportunity when his boss did not allow him to leave work early for an emergency. The man’s wife was admitted to the emergency room after an accident, and he wanted to head to the hospital to monitor the situation.
The boss, however, did not greenlight his request to leave early, and here’s why, according to an anonymous dilemma shared on the X page, @meinmokhtar.
“Work is more important,” the boss told his employee.
The man’s wife was admitted to the emergency room for surgery and with her life at stake, the man scolded his boss for not allowing him to check up on her.
“It’s your cue to QUIT!”
The man, however, did not share how he scolded his boss. Social media users, on the other hand, were NOT surprised at the situation as many flocked to the comment section to share their personal experiences.
“I was a victim, too. My mum had an accident and my boss told me to go to work as usual, on the 1st day of Raya. Just ignore your boss, as long as you keep him updated, and start looking for another job.”
“Please report to HR, and let your boss answer.”
“He says “work is more important”. Let’s see what he says when his own family is in trouble.”
“Just a reminder, state this matter in your resignation letter. If you get a warning letter, make sure you mention your boss’ behaviour which prompted you to take that action.”
“Your boss is inhumane. Avoid this kind of person at all costs.”
“He is so cruel. Please resign, I wish you well.”
“If my wife had an accident, I would’ve taken EL right away without listening to my boss. I would deal with the consequences when I’m back. Life is more important.”
What would you do if you had to deal with your boss in such a situation?
