A Malaysian customer recently shared his experience of paying for something he did not expect.

In the Facebook group Peminat Kopi, a Malaysian man said he paid RM8 for a cup of latte, with a double shot of espresso. However, what the customer allegedly saw behind the scenes shocked him.

The customer claims that he saw the barista preparing his order using powdered coffee and heating the beverage in a microwave without using the espresso machine.

“The barista nodded and understood what I wanted. I paid RM8 for this, and I was disappointed.”

The founder responds to the accusation

So, was the coffee merely a cup of instant coffee? The post gained the attention of the founder of the coffee house who immediately denied the “instant coffee” claim in the comment section and said that all their coffees are brewed using coffee machines.

“All the coffees here are made from espresso that we have brewed using robusta coffee beans. It’s not instant coffee; we brew it using a coffee machine. 100% espresso,” the founder explained.

The founder also clarified that the explanation about their coffee beans is displayed on the counters at all their outlets, which you can find below.

He also said that the customer had visited one of their outlets in Putrajaya, and apologised to the customer for the confusion caused.

“We apologise for our flaws, and we will improve in the future.”

Robusta is one of the most used coffee beans in Malaysian coffee houses, aside from Arabica. Both coffee beans, besides being different species of the same plant family are often differentiated by flavour and characteristics, which you can read more about here.

How do you like your coffee?
