A motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a car driven by a man under the influence of alcohol and drugs along Jalan Raya Barat in Klang on Sunday (29 March).

South Klang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Lim Jit Huey said the incident, which occurred at about 11:40 AM, involved a motorcycle and two cars.

Preliminary investigations found that a Honda City driven by a local man in his 20s was travelling from Jalan Raya Barat towards Klang town at high speed and in a dangerous manner.

“The driver is believed to have overtaken several vehicles ahead before entering the opposite lane.”

“This action caused the vehicle to collide with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction,” he said in a statement issued on Sunday.

He said that as a result of the collision, the victim, a local man in his 30s, was thrown onto a Perodua Myvi.

“The victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries,” he said.

Positive for both drugs and alcohol

Lim added that screening tests found the car driver to be positive for both alcohol and drugs.

“The suspect has been arrested to assist further investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.

He added that the case is also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“Members of the public with information related to the incident are urged to come forward to assist investigations by contacting the investigating officer.”

He stressed that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is a serious offence that endangers one’s own safety as well as that of other road users.

“The public is advised to always comply with traffic laws and to drive responsibly and considerately while on the road,” he said.
