By now, you would have heard that a door plug on an Alaska Airlines flight had come off mid-flight, which caused an emergency landing.
Recently, it was revealed that the door plug of the Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft was found on a tree in the backyard of school teacher Bob Sauer’s home in Portland, reports Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB).
A close-up of the door plug shows a handwritten serial number and other manufacturing details; it even states that it was “Made in Malaysia”, all in permanent marker.
This raised many questions and when asked about the inscription at a press conference, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that he would not be able to comment on the issue as he has no idea whether the inscription was genuine.
“That’s just according to a news report based on an eyewitness.”
So, he says that the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) will be tasked to look into the matter when they receive any formal reports from the airline concerned, as reported by FMT.
Boeing, the aircraft manufacturer, couldn’t address the handwritten inscriptions due to the active investigation by the USA’s National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
However, BBC reports that Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun had admitted that Boeing was at fault for the incident.
