We love to see wholesome boss-employee relationships like this!
Recently, tabla! a weekly Singaporean newspaper published a very adorable story where a Singaporean employer went to his employee’s wedding in India.
It has been 17 years since A. Marimuthu started working in Singapore so that he can clear off his family’s debts and make life better for his family in India.
Now 37, he finally got married and returned to India to do so. However, he was in for a surprise at his wedding last month when his boss, Calvin Yeow showed up!
The employee was overjoyed and treated him well by giving him VVIP treatment.
It is said that during Marimuthu’s years of service, he never took time off and his hard work was eventually seen by the higher-ups as he was promoted to assistant supervisor in 2011 and supervisor in 2016.
With his long relationship with the company, Calvin decided to go to Marimuthu’s wedding to show their appreciation for him.
Calvin said that his father (who went to India multiple times for his employee’s weddings) urged him to go as well.
It was truly an eye-opening experience for him as he said,
“It left the deepest impression on me. Seeing for myself the simple lives of our migrant workers was really humbling.”
Marimuthu had a difficult past as well, as he had to join his widowed mother in earning money to sustain the family at the age of 16.
When his mother had to retire, he found work in Singapore and mortgaged the family home and land just so that he can make it to the country.
Life wasn’t easy in a foreign country as he had to skip meals to save up his salary to send home. But after years of struggling and working hard, he is now in a better situation.
Marimuthu even built a house in his hometown and painted it the company’s colours! He will soon be going back to Singapore with his new bride.
This is certainly a wonderful story! We hope that everything will work out smoothly for the couple.
