A famous Middle East and Turkish sweet shop in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, has been shut down by the authorities after the store had gone viral on TikTok.
According to the Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL), they enforced action on the the shop that sells khunafa and other Middle East and Turkish sweets after previously carrying out monitoring activities there. They found that the shop was operating without the proper licenses.
They wrote, “As a result of the monitoring that has been carried out, it has been found that the premises involved did not have a valid license from DBKL for any peddling activities. The premises only had a Current Entertainment License (Outside Promotion).”
“Additionally, the business activities were also operated by foreigners without valid permits. Following the results of the monitoring activities, an enforcement operation was carried out on August 19 (Saturday) at the premises involved.”
As a result, the shop was immediately closed off by the authorities and the operator of the shop was given a compound noticed under UUK3(1) UUK on Hawker Licensing (WPKL) 2016, for carrying out business activities without a valid license from DBKL.
This Middle East and Turkish sweet shop had previously gone viral on TikTok for having customers dance for a free dessert. A video of one customer in particular received a lot of attention online.
