The Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission recently confirmed that they had confiscated Aliff Syukri’s phone for investigation following his viral Raya video which caused controversy online.
This happened after the Ministry of Communication, Fahmi Fadzil, told MCMC to take appropriate action against the Malaysian businessman for the inappropriate Raya video. Aliff uploaded a teaser video of Love Raya in which he is seen in a jacuzzi with several other men who dance near him in Baju Melayu.
The video has since been removed by Aliff’s mum’s order, followed by an apology from himself.
“It’s not pleasant but Aliff is not violating the laws”
According to another report, a member of the Justice for Sisters was not fond of how MCMC chose to be the “moral police” and how they handled the matter. Thilaga said it’s unfair for MCMC to take action just because most of the public is not a fan of the video.
“We can’t punish Aliff for the voice of the majority, but we need to have a solid reason. It’s not something that has to be punished or investigated through legal process.”
In the meantime, Thilaga also admitted that while the majority may not like Aliff’s Raya video, it’s not up to the authorities to take action.
“It’s not pleasant to watch the video but Aliff has not violated the laws.”
Thilaga believes that the government’s intervention and investigation are unnecessary as long as the video’s content does not lead to any serious issues.
Do you think Aliff should be investigated, or does he have the right and freedom to express his creativity?
