The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) plays an essential role in our country’s military defence, however, a recent statement by the Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu or affectionately known as Mat Sabu revealed that our air force unit is in a poor state due to inefficient management in the past.

During the royal address in Parliament on Tuesday (July 31), Mat Sabu shockingly revealed that only four out of the 28 Russian fighters jets owned by the RMAF are able to actually fly, as reported by The Star.

It was reported that the RMAF had a total of 18 Russian-made Sukhoi Su-30MKM and ten MiG-29 jet fighters, but it seemed like they had failed to properly maintain the fighter jets’ which made them not fit for flying. Why wasn’t there anything done last time?

“Only four of the Sukhois are able to fly well,” Mat Sabu said. What?!

He added that the remaining 14 Sukhoi jet fighters are under maintenance.

The Defence Ministry had previously terminated the contractor engaged by the former administration and are now planning to replace them with local contractors.

It has been informed that the ten MiG-29 multi-role jets were sent to the RMAF in 1995. As for the Sukhoi Su-30MKM Air-Superiority Fighter, six of them were delivered in 2007, while the rest was received in 2009.

Well, luckily something is being done now to ensure that the jets will be fixed and ready for flying!
