On October 6th (Sunday), the police conducted a motorcycle operation at around 6 pm, starting from the coastal area of Kurong Tengar all the way to Kuala Perlis.

A video making rounds on X shows the extreme lengths some motorcyclists go to allegedly to avoid getting caught, probably due to the modifications they’ve made on their motorcycles.

In one of the videos circulating online, a group of motorcyclists were caught on camera making a bold attempt to lift their bikes over roadside barriers in a desperate effort to cross to the opposite side of the road and evade the authorities.

The video was captured by several other road users, who can be seen stuck in heavy traffic, witnessing the entire incident.

“Number plates smaller than a 5-cent coin”

Berita Harian reported that during the operation, the police seized 350 motorcycles found to have various violations upon inspecting motorcyclists on the road.

Besides not wearing helmets, some motorcyclists were found to be so bold as to use number plates smaller than a five-cent coin to avoid detection by the authorities.

The Kangar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop, stated that the operation, which started around 6 PM and continued until early yesterday morning, managed to detain a total of 441 motorcycle riders and passengers.

Police have seized 350 motorcycles in total

Yusharifuddin mentioned how the operation is still ongoing, and so far, they have seized 350 motorcycles that were found to have various violations, including not displaying or installing registration plates, modifications to motorcycles such as exhaust systems, and several cases where we detected the use of fake registration plates.

He also told Berita Harian how during the operation, the police have identified individuals or groups of motorcyclists coming from Perak, Penang, Kedah, and even Langkawi.

Most of the fines handed out during the operation were for offences with a minimum penalty of RM300 and not exceeding RM2,000.

“Through the operation carried out, the authorities hope that families and parents will continuously monitor their children to ensure they ride motorcycles safely, which includes having a driving license and adhering to all established traffic regulations.”
