Trigger warning: This article mentions suicide.
A 48-year-old man in Seremban died after falling from the 10th floor of a flat when the weather was pouring, and residents didn’t know that someone had fallen to their death.
They initially thought the loud thump was the sound of thunder.
According to the residents of the flat, the rain was heavy and the sound of the rainfall was hammering the roofs, and with the thunderstorms continuously heard, no one suspected anything when the loud thump was heard. Not until one of them saw the severely dented tiles of the roofs, with a body lying on it.
According to China Press, many residents suspected that the victim jumped down from the 10th floor or above.
Some of the residents pointed out that they noticed the deceased was wandering around the place and asked them to open the electronic door to grant him entrance. However, they refused his request when they found out the deceased was not a resident there.
One of the residents politely rejected the deceased and told him to call his relatives to come down and open the door for him. According to the resident, the deceased did not exhibit any abnormal behaviour when they were conversing.
The deceased managed to sneak in when another resident opened the electronic door. CCTV footage showed the deceased sneaking into the building around 3 PM yesterday (May 19) and wandering around the place for more than 10 minutes.
Not the first suicide at the place
Chew Seh Yong, the state assemblyman for Lobak, rushed to the scene after the news and expressed his regret that the building is still the “choice” for people to end their lives. According to Chew, iron wire mesh had been installed to prevent such cases, which the residents initially rejected.
Chew added that since a woman jumped from the building in December 2021, the management of the building has been working hard to upgrade the security system and the equipment in the building. Chew also shared his visit on his Facebook post.
